Depart
from the hotel approx. 9.30 a.m and start with a visit to the town of the
Santa Maria Culture Centre and the local market place, before moving on to
the Pedra de Lume Salt Mines, where you can take a dip and ‘float’ in
the saline waters, 26 times saltier than sea water.
From the salt mines,
we move on to Espargos, the administration center of Sal, here
guests will have a stop for approx 15/20 minutes at a typical café.
From
Espargos we head on to the fertile zone of Terra Boa and “mirages”,
from here it is a short drive to Buracona and the natural swimming pool,
where you will be able to freshen up with a swim and appreciate the
“magic eye” if weather permits.
In Palmeira we shall stop for the
typical Caboverdian lunch at a local restaurant, and before the return
journey we shall pay a visit at the local harbour and only then we start
to make our way back to Santa Maria via the developing tourist zone of
Cabocan, set in the beautiful dunes of Ponta Preta.and visit the only
local Cabo Verdian hand crafts shop in town.
This
is a full day excursion and includes lunch but excludes beverages.
Shopping
in Espargos - 4 hours
During
this trip you can visit
Espargos
City
and buy the Cape Verde
souvenirs for your family and friends at home. We pick you up from the
hotel at 15:00, then you will have opportunity to visit the most
interesting shops in Espargos and at 18:00 try fantastic Cape
Verdian
snacks with coffee at a typical bar. After trying some of the delicious
cookies and specialities of the Cape
Verdian
gastronomy we bring you back to your hotel at 19:00.
“Neptunus”
- €30 pp (day) or €45 pp (night)
1 hour in a RIB starting from
Santa Maria
beach.
Admire
with us the wonderful marine life of
Cape Verde
, you will be pleasantly surprised!
On
this 1 hour excursion, we take you to visit two different wrecks, the
first one, near the Ponta Do Sinó is the Portuguese steam ship
“BOLANA”, sunk in 1920, and its huge boiler is now covered in sea life
and very often surrounded by shoals of colourful tropical fish.
The
second wreck is on the other side of Santa Maria Bay and the ship is named
“Santo Antão”, sunk in 1965, this wreak can be admired in full,
though is now in two parts. Here we often manage to see schools of big
fish and also turtles, the excursion will then finish by returning to
Santa Maria
Beach
.
The
“Fun Quad Tour” -
€65 pp
The
“Fun Quad” is a something between a Buggy and a Quad bike. This
excursion takes approximately 2½ hours, includes transfer from your Hotel
and starting with the protected landscape region of the Salt Mines of
Santa Maria and the
Turtle
Cemetery
. We drive along the dunes on the coast, passing through
Shark
Bay
where kite and windsurfers contribute to the incredible scenery on windy
days. Then, the excursion passes near the old Poço “Well” of Santa
Maria, where animals stop by to drink fresh water, from here we proceed
towards Baia da Murdeira, the Fun Quads will stop in the lonely but
nice Bay of Calheta Funda for photographs and, weather permitting, for a
swim alternatively simply find some seashells as souvenirs. The next stop
is at the Oasis of Algodoeiro, where amongst the trees there are always
few donkeys and the ruins of a military construction from the Portuguese
colonial years. The way back is through Ponta Preta, and the touristic
expanding area of CABOCAN. The excursion finishes with the dusty cars
going through
Santa Maria
and arriving finally at the Cabo Quad office, from which the transfers to
your respective hotels will be made.
