Sambala Resort  **** Baia de São Francisco

Introduction

Sambala Village is an award winning eco conscious development, built on a plateau above the sandy beaches of Baia de São Francisco on Santiago’s south east coast. The whole site is large, 20 square kilometres of varied, predominantly rocky, terrain, crisscrossed with deep dry river beds and with 8 kilometers of virgin coastline.

Sambala village is close to the main airport and the Capital City of Praia and is only a short drive from the new ring road, which gives access to the bountiful mountainous interior of this varied and exquisite tropical island.

Acacia is the main shrub growing naturally in the South East region (as one would expect in an environment with year round sun and a short rainy season), and the landscape around the village is accentuated by substantial plantings of Acacia, supported by eco-friendly irrigation.

The village comprises 68 townhouses and 382 apartments in nine condominium-style blocks of two and three stories, built around private swimming pools and exotic gardens. The architectural style is a combination of traditional Portuguese and modern Mediterranean. Spacious avenues providing shops, palm thatched bars, restaurants and sports facilities will complement the properties and their surroundings. Many properties have spectacular views down the green valley of the Ribeira de São Francisco leading to the beach of fine sand and the azure blue tropical sea.

Furnishings throughout are top quality, each ecologically sourced, the range including furnishings made from reclaimed teak from India and FSC certified timber.

Future holidaymakers will benefit from the projected 36 hole golf course, 5 star hotels, a Marina, a fully equipped Diving Centre with PADI instruction, a Big Game Fishing Centre with  purpose built high speed boats and a variety of water sports including sailing wind-surfing and kite-surfing.

Our Opinion

The main infrastructure was completed at an early stage and the secondary infrastructure will lag somewhat behind the apartments. The main beach can be seen some 800 yards away down quite a steeply sloping valley. It will be some time before the landscaping will become fully established and the shrubs and palm trees are fully grown.

As with most large projects, building work on the later phases will be in progress for a while, though Sambala has gone to very great lengths to ensure that this work is isolated from occupied properties and  interestingly, the unique method of construction removes the necessity of unsightly cranes!.

A holiday in the completed condominiums will be most enjoyable and anyone wishing to enjoy the year round warm seas, blue skies and unique African and Portuguese influenced island culture will find Sambala Village an excellent base.

There is no doubt that when completed this development will be the jewel in the crown of Santiago and indeed the whole Archipelago. The first units are due to be handed over to their proud owners around Easter 2008 and when we visited the site we were very impressed with the larger concept in general and the quality of the apartments and furnishings in particular!
