We, Witney Travel, having dealt with Portugal for countless years, have followed the historical route to Portuguese speaking Africa, of course long freed from the yoke of Colonial power, but still retaining the language and some fine buildings from that time. The areas we have examined so far, are the Cape Verde Islands well out into the Atlantic some 460kms from the coast of Senegal in West Africa (which are the subject of this website) and also Mozambique, and in particular the Islands just off-shore, namely Inhaca Island and two of the Islands of the Bazaruto Archipelago plus three wonderful Lodges on the mainland, and finally the Islands of São Tomé e Principe, off the coast of Gabon – these areas you will find on www.africanislands.co.uk. We trade under the names of Destination Portugal and latterly, due to our dramatically increasing business to the area, Destination Cape Verde.

Why the Cape Verde Islands you may well ask? We believe that our Clients are adventurous, at least to a degree, and would appreciate the sights, tastes and smells of somewhere exotic. The Cape Verde Islands are truly African; there is dust and poverty; the living conditions of the local people are sometimes primitive, service can be more enthusiastic than effective, things do not always work at 100 percent efficiency and medical precautions need to be taken.

However most of the Islands have wonderful water sports, diving and fishing possibilities and are well organised for experienced or novice surfers, wind-surfers, divers or fishermen. Of particular interest to fishermen are the salt water fly-fishing opportunities.

We have created a culture of care for our Clients. We ensure that each person is met at the appropriate Airport or Ferry Terminal. The optional excursion packages are often also accompanied by our local Representative Staff. We look after you. We choose only the best places to stay – seldom less than 3 star ratings (our own assessment of quality and service and not always in accord with the official rating) and we encourage you to take the Club Class (Star Class in the case of Astraeus) upgrade on your flights where possible. We have tried and tested Staff on the ground who will react to any problem, be it medical, accidental or the failure of things to work.
