The Cape Verde Islands are in the Atlantic Ocean, 620km (385miles) west of West Africa's coast at Senegal. There are 10 major islands (9 of them inhabited) and 5 islets, all of volcanic origin and divided into two sub groups. To the north is the Barlavento (Windward) group (Santo Antão, São Vicente, Santa Luzia, Ilheu Branco, Ilheu Raso, São Nicolau, Sal and Boa Vista). To the south is the Sotavento (Leeward) group (Maio, Santiago, Fogo and Brava). Click here for a map and more detailed information about the archipelago.

Wonderful uncrowded beaches, dramatic mountainous scenery (on some Islands), charming, welcoming and extremely “laid-back” inhabitants, and the fact that the Cape Verde Islands are in the very early stages of touristic development, make this a destination of immense attraction to those who seek somewhere new and different to bask in the sun. Of
great interest too is the Big Game
Fishing,
Scuba Diving,
Wind-Surfing and Trekking available in the Archipelago. To begin your adventure, please choose from the list of islands below for an introduction to the island itself and details of the accommodation we feature on the island. Kite surfing is at an advanced stage with world class participants enjoying the prevailing Trade Winds, particularly on Sal and Boavista. Caboverdean cuisine includes Cachupa, lobster tuna, yellow tailed tuna and a variety of sea food including perceves, cracas, crab, goose barnacles, squid, whelks, mussels and clams. Local transport is by taxi or aluguers (pick-up trucks with benches in the back) which are cheap and amusing. Inter-island flights are with TACV Cape Verdean Airlines with ATR 42 and 72 prop-jet aircraft with between 48 and 68 seats. International flights are provided direct from London by TACV, Astraeus and Thomas Cook all using Boeing 757 aircraft. Scenery is very varied between the Islands, some like boavista and Sal being very flat and scenically uninspiring (save for the beaches) whereas Santo Antão, Fogo, São Vicente and parts of Santiago and São Nicholau are very mountainous and ruggedly attractive.
